The 11th: Examination of the number of facilities and facility capacity ~ Increase the facility? Or increase the facility capacity? ~

Whether to newly purchase or expand one with the same capability as the facility currently being used, or purchase or install a device to improve the existing facility capacity.
This not only affects the capacity of production system, but also the purchase and maintenance costs of the facility to the maintenance and the load of workers.
Let's use GD.findi to examine this.

Here we consider the production model of the case of "examination of worker's allocation" previously introduced in the 9th Tech Magazine.

  Inspection (inspection machine) --> Intermediate processing (processing plant 1 / processing part 2) --> finishing (finishing machine)
This represents the flow of the processing (facility).

Here, in order to raise the production capacity, consider which one of the following two hypotheses is suitable for the finishing machine.
(1) Add another equipment with same capability
(2) Improve facility capability by installing optional mechanisms for finishing machines that have already been placed

1. Modification of model
Add one finishing machine and connect to the finishing process.

With regard to the station activity for the finishing machine (new), we assign the assignment of workers' team (Team) and the behavior (ND) of that team in the same way as for other station activities.

2. Confirmation of results – Part 1
Let's do production rendering and check the results.

Far from being almost unchanged, productivity has declined slightly (Production completed at 0:39:44 last time).
This is because even if the number of facilities increases, the worker who processes the process using it does not change and the movement loss of one worker has increased.
From this fact, it is obvious that productivity will improve if you increase the number of workers, but here we will verify the change of equipment only.
Let's examine the hypothesis of (2).

3. Modification of model
In the model used in (1), return the number of finishing machines to original, reduce work time of the finishing process from 15 seconds to 10 seconds.
This can be regarded as a reduction in the time requiring for finishing the object by increasing the capacity of the finishing machine (1.5 times).

4. Confirmation of result – Part 2
Let's check the result of production system which has increased its equipment capacity.

Looking at the result, it indicates 0:36:10 before all the production was completed, and it turned out that the production capacity has been improved.

From these facts above, in this production model
(2) Improve facility capability by installing optional mechanisms for finishing machines that have already been placed.
One can now judge that the hypothesis is better one.

In the case of this production model, we were able to derive the result that it is enough to take measures against the existing facilities capacity expansion, rather than purchasing new equally capable facilities. By examining the facility layout and personnel formation, and the individual capabilities of individual facilities and transportation methods, a much more precise examination can be done.

As mentioned at the beginning, considering the addition of facilities and strengthening capacity greatly contribute to the production cost.
Even in such conditions, it is possible to examine by using GD.findi.
